R.J. Cutler's The September Issue premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and was enthusiastically embraced by audiences, critics and the Grand Jury alike. A total of nine screenings of the film played to sold-out houses, none more memorable than the Park City premiere at the Temple Theater that was followed by a Q & A session between Cutler, Anna Wintour and Festival Director John Cooper. Hailed as "Mesmerizing" by the New York Times, "Delicious" by salon.com and "Luscious and Feisty" by Entertainment Weekly, the film was also honored as the recipient of the Grand Jury Award for Excellence in Cinematography.
In the days following the festival, A&E IndieFilms and Actual Reality Pictures proudly announced that they had closed a deal with Roadside Attractions for theatrical distribution in North America. The film will open in theaters this coming September, with home video to follow and a television premiere on A&E in the fall of 2010. Worldwide rights to the film are being sold by Wild Bunch Films and Elle Driver, and theatrical deals have already been made for England and Australia.
